4:25pm - 5:05pm The Development and Use of an Internationalisation Index
Tuesday Jun 11
Given the important and multifaceted role of internationalisation of higher education, the attempts to define and measure it are modest. STINT, the Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education, has invested considerable efforts in the development of an internationalization index. Since the launch in 2016, this index provides aggregate and detailed data about how international a higher education institution (HEI) is. The STINT Internationalisation Index covers 28 Swedish HEIs and it is updated annually. It comprises six dimensions of internationalisation; research, student mobility, international PhD students, education in English, and international academic experience of staff and leadership, respectively. A presentation at EduData Summit will cover how the index is composed as well as how it has been received and used in the Swedish HEI system. It will also discuss the possibilities to broaden the use to cover other countries, thereby increasing the value of the index.
