4:25pm - 5:05pm The Case for Big Data in Higher Education: Opportunities, Applications, & Analysis
Tuesday Jun 11
Big Data has helped Google, Facebook, and Amazon to transform commerce into billions every day. Higher education conversely is using data analytics and learning analytics to improve student success. To further understand the implications of big data in higher education a bibliometric study comprised of aggregated data from Scopus and Web of Science databases using keywords [“Big data” and “higher education”] were used to assess publications, authors, origins of publication, and citation frequency. A content analysis of the amassed abstracts from the Web of Science database provided insight into how some higher education institutions integrate, assess, and evaluate data analytics and learning analytics to improve student outcome. This presentation will explore opportunities for higher education institutions to use big data, their applications, and analysis based on several case studies.
