Dr Mercier was Associate Vice-President (AVP) for Institutional Research and Planning for 10 years at the University of Ottawa. During this mandate, he has overseen the production of close to 30 major data projects covering areas of economic impact, revenue generation and allocation, budgeting, finance, forecasting, surveys, descriptive and inferential statistics, bibliometrics, prediction and evaluation of student success, and institutional performance. He also chaired the data exchange network of the U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities as well as the Accountability Committee of the Ontario Council of University Planning and Analysis. Dr Mercier is a specialist in research methods, statistical analysis, computing, and surveys applied to a wide variety of areas including higher education management, program evaluation, benchmarking, psychology, public sector management, judgement, risk perception and psychopharmacology. He is the author or co-author of more than 60 peer reviewed publications, book, book chapters, invited talks and technical reports, including 4 chapters on behavioural research methods , and as many scientific communications in conferences worldwide. He has taught the statistical analysis of behavioural data and supervised 22 Honour's research projects and seven PhD theses, and served as an examiner on more than 40 Master's and PhD theses.
